Frame Loom Weaving Workshop - Saturday 24 August 2019

Frame Loom Weaving Workshop - Saturday 24 August 2019

Would you like to have a go at weaving, but are concerned about the cost and space involved? This might be the thing for you!

I’m running a weaving workshop on Saturday 24 August 2019 at The Hydro Hotel, Eastbourne for those of you who either just want to “have a go” or are thinking about purchasing a loom but are unsure of whether or not to invest in a larger rigid heddle or shaft loom.

After a brief explanation of some weaving terminology, I will show you how to warp your loom, and then how to create a fabric using different textures and fibres. You will be able to make a wall-hanging, with all sorts of wacky textures, or a more classic piece of fabric which you can then use afterwards as a stand-alone piece or an embellishment, for example, on a cushion. I will bring a few samples to show you on the day.

The workshop will run from 10 am until 4 pm, and will include the following:

  1. Morning/afternoon tea and coffee

  2. Cold buffet lunch

  3. Use of an Ashford 700 mm x 500 mm frame loom and accessories

  4. Basic yarns, ribbons and wool roving

  5. Class handout

The Ashford looms will be brand new, with a small “hire” cost worked into the price of the workshop. However, if you choose to purchase your loom after the class, I will deduct that cost from the final payment for the loom.

You are also more than welcome to bring your own scraps of yarns and fibres to use.

Additionally, you will be welcome to take a break at any time, of course, and sneak in a bit of knitting or crochet out in the beautiful garden areas of the hotel.

There are twelve spaces available in this first workshop, but if it proves popular I will happily organise further similar classes.
